Results from Our Seattle Personal Injury Attorney

Our Seattle personal injury lawyer has successfully handled electrical burn injury and death cases.

Most recently, Robert Kornfeld successfully represented the estate of a deceased cable installer and his surviving wife and two children, as well as a surviving coworker in a contentious multiparty litigated matter which settled on the first day of trial, October 11, 2010.

On May 21, 2007, Plaintiffs were installing cable by strapping on the fiber optic cable onto the existing cabling strung between PSE utility poles. Unfortunately, because trees overgrew these existing lines and denied the workers access to complete this work, a decision was made to raise the boom lift up a bit higher and then bring the basket down onto the branch to push it out of the way in order to access the cable to continue the strapping of the conduit. In this process, the operator lost his bearings in the trees and raised the lift too high making contact with the three-phase distribution lines.

One worker was killed and a second was seriously injured and suffered severe burns over his body when the workers struck the power lines up above the trees. Rob represented the family of the decedent in a wrongful death case and the surviving coworker who was burned.

The case was court approved as a final settlement on November 15, 2010.

Chemical burns, fireworks & fire

Rob Kornfeld has handled cases of children injured by fireworks, burns and most recently two 11 year old boys playing with gasoline which resulted in a policy limits recovery for the minor child after some reconstructive surgery and grafting on his leg.

Chemical exposure results from contact with a substance considered to be toxic.

This can occur at work or at home. Those who work in chemical and plastic manufacturing, mining, refineries, asbestos or pesticides are often at risk.

Home risks include cleaning products, pesticides, paints, or living near chemical plants, refineries or gas stations. A few of the effects of short-term exposure include dizziness, headaches, shortness of breath, nausea, and rashes. Long-term exposure can cause chronic or fatal diseases, including cancer, birth defects or neurological damage. Many of these side effects and illnesses can take years to develop.

State and federal laws make it the responsibility of manufacturers and companies to provide everyone with safe products and a safe working environment. Should injuries occur, compensation might include clean-up of the chemical substance, medical expenses, lost wages and pain and suffering.

Rob also handles burn cases involving children or burns caused to adults in the workplace, such as electric shock or burns caused by power lines or other acts of negligence by third persons/companies.
